Great Camp Construction & Renovation Tour – Session 2

This tour will be repeated on Saturday and Sunday. Sign up for one of the two sessions.
Camp Pinebrook was first built in 1898 by Levi P. Morton, Governor of New York, 1895 – 1896, and Vice President of the United States, 1889 – 1893. The buildings constructed by Morton burned to the ground in 1913 and the property was subsequently sold to Herman S. Rosenbaum. The “new” buildings, all of which survive to the present day, were designed by the renowned Adirondack architect William Coulter. Two of the principal lodges on the eastern half of the original property, Marcy Lodge and Whiteface Lodge, were extensively renovated in the early 2000s by then-owners Jonathan and Regina Landsberg, and have undergone additional renovations by the current owners Paul & Lori Joynt. The five historic buildings on the western half of the property, owned by the family of Irving and Judith Cohen since 1972, have been undergoing renovation since 2016, with completion anticipated in 2026.
We’ll begin the tour with a brief presentation on the history of the property and the various innovative construction methods employed for the restoration of the Boathouse, the original Pump House (now a home office), the original Ice House (soon to be a family theater and game room), the original dining hall (Ampersand Hall; the Cohen family camp since 1972), and Catamount (the original chauffeur’s cottage, scheduled for renovation beginning sometime in 2025). We’ll then tour all seven buildings on the property. This is a great chance to see completed historic preservation work as well as work in progress, and perhaps gain some knowledge that you could use for restoration or construction on your own property!
Please note: The property is an active construction site. Attendees will be required to sign a waiver of liability. This tour is not handicap accessible nor suitable for children under 14 years of age.
Ample vehicle parking is available. Dock space is available for up to four (4) boats. Call (240) 743-9255 to reserve dock space.
