Historic Photographic Tour of Upper Saranac Lake

Upper Saranac Lake was a magnet for late nineteenth and early twentieth century commercial photographers hoping to sell images to the tourist market. Their views of USL and its hotels (Bartlett’s, Prospect House/Saranac Inn, Wawbeek, Corey’s), as well as other landmarks (Sweeney’s Carry, Chapel Island) are in the collections of such institutions as the Library of Congress and the New York and Boston public libraries. Sally Svenson, our presenter, is the author of Adirondack Photographers, published in 2023. Take a walk back in time to see what the lakescape looked like over a hundred years ago and learn about some of the intrepid characters whose photos popularized our corner of the Adirondacks.
